Panaji: It was a little box, containing medicines prescribed for Chinese president Xi Jinping, which almost caused a diplomatic incident on Saturday, after Goa Police and Chinese delegates clashed over whether the box and its contents could or could not be delivered to the Chinese head of state.Reliable sources from Goa police informed that the Chinese delegates were checked and cleared by the The Special Protection Group (SPG) and were allowed to take the medicine box inside. However, the lady officer outside the conference hall stopped the Chinese delegate stating that the box can’t be allowed inside as per the ‘Blue Book’ protocol.
“When the police asked them to stay away from the VVIP meet venue, there a verbal altercation and jostling after which one of the Chinese media person pushed down a lady police person,” police sources said.
After which the National Security Guard (NSG) commandos were called in to take control of the situation.
Earlier during the day, the Chinese security had also kicked and assaulted one Police Sub Inspector who was on duty at the venue, after he stopped the Chinese security entering the conference room.
No complaint has been registered with the local police.
When asked to comment on the scuffle, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, “There was an issue, but I don't want to talk about it.”
